# Witbitz Spaces — user guide **What Spaces is.** A Space is a shared chat room with an AI assistant in it. You can keep a Space to yourself, or invite people and talk with them and the assistant together. A Space's messages are stored encrypted with its own key, which travels in its link. A regular Space opens for anyone with its link; a verified Space lets only the people you list post, and they prove who they are with Google or an emailed code; a confidential Space runs its assistant in an attested secure enclave, so not even Witbitz can read it. You can also make temporary Spaces that are deleted when unused, and direct chats with one other person. ## Help Help is your own assistant for using the app. Ask it how to do something, why something isn't available, about your own Spaces and settings ("how many Spaces do I have?", "is the lock on?"), where something was said ("where did we decide the hotel?"), or where a photo or file was shared ("the PDF about the lease", "the photo of the beach") — files by name and type, and a photo by what it shows when the Space's assistant has looked at it. 1. Open the menu (☰) and tap "Help" — the first row under Spaces. It is also the first row in Code's menu. 2. Or open Settings → "Help". 3. Ask your question. Places in its answers are links: tap a name in a path like Settings → Privacy & security → Lock screen and the app opens each step and highlights the place. A Space it names opens that Space; a message it finds opens the Space at that message. To find where something was said, Help searches your messages on this device and shows you the places. The first time you use Help, your phone reads the older history of your Spaces in the background and keeps a copy for searching (it stays on the device, sealed like the rest when storage protection is on), so the first answers may cover only part of it. It never reads the messages' words back to the assistant. It also finds images and files by their names, a photo by what it shows, and the Code sessions this device has opened; a Code session it names opens in Code, on its computer. Help is free: up to 50 questions a day. It is a confidential Space only you are in, and it is not listed among your Spaces. It can see the names and kinds of your Spaces, who is in each one (owners, admins, people invited by email, people who joined, and who wrote), who wrote each message, and this device's settings; it cannot change anything for you — it tells you where to do it. It only answers questions about the app. Not available when: you are not signed in. ## Your Spaces list The menu (☰) lists your Spaces, newest activity first. 1. Tap the magnifier to search them by name. 2. Tap "People" for your private address book. 3. Long-press a Space to pin, rename, archive, export or delete it. Archived Spaces are under "Archived" at the end of the list. A Space listed as "Space" is one whose name had not reached this device; the app asks the Space for its name in the background and the row updates by itself. To clean up: Settings → Preferences → "Remove empty Spaces". It lists the Spaces with no messages and nobody else in them, asks once, and deletes them on the server and from all your devices. A Space with even one message, or another person in it, is never removed. ## Start a Space A new Space starts with you and an assistant. You can add people now or later. 1. Open the menu (☰) and tap "New Space", or tap the new-Space button at the top of a room. 2. Tap "Assistant" to choose which assistant joins, or "New assistant" in the list to write your own name and persona. 3. Optional: tap "Add people" and pick people from your contacts. 4. If you added people, type a name in "Name this Space" — a group needs a name. 5. Optional: pick a "Model" for the assistant. 6. Optional: tap "Advanced" for confidential, temporary, private assistants, an app, or continuing an existing chat. 7. Tap "Create". To bring in an old conversation: "Advanced" → "Continue an existing chat", then paste a ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini share link, or pick a "WhatsApp chat export" file. Not available when: you added people but left the name empty — you see "Give this Space a name — everyone in it will see it." ## Invite people Anyone in a regular Space can share its link. The person opens it, gives a name, and is in. 1. In the Space, tap ⋯ (More). 2. Tap "Invite someone" to share a link by WhatsApp, Email, "Share…" or "Copy link". 3. Or open `⋯ → People → Invite by email` and choose people; the Space appears in their Spaces when they open the app. 4. If the Space has no other people yet and nobody has named it, you are asked to "Name this Space" first. To open a link someone sent you: menu → "Open a shared link", paste it, tap "Open". To invite someone to the app itself (not a Space): menu → "Invite to Spaces". Not available when: the room is a direct chat (adding a third person would make it a group), or it is your private assistant room. ## Verified Spaces A verified Space lets only the people on its list read and post. Each person proves their email with Google sign-in or an emailed code. You must be signed in to make one. 1. Start a New Space and tap "Add people". 2. Turn on "Only these people can post". 3. Optional: turn on "Show @usernames" to show posters by their @username instead of display names. 4. Name the Space and tap "Create". You can also set this in `Advanced → Who can post?` → "Only specific people (by email)", and type emails, @usernames, or "@company.com" for a whole domain. The person who creates a verified Space is its owner. Not available when: you are not signed in ("Sign in to create a verified Space — you need to be on its list yourself."). ## Confidential Spaces A confidential Space runs its assistant in an attested secure enclave, and the model runs on confidential hardware. The server can never read it. It uses an open model. The room shows an "ENCLAVE" badge at the top. 1. Start a New Space and tap "Advanced". 2. Turn on "Confidential tier". 3. Choose "Follow Witbitz releases" (accept new published builds) or "Only the build verified now" (new releases need your OK). 4. Go back and tap "Create". To see how a confidential Space is protected, tap the "ENCLAVE" badge, or open `⋯ → This Space → Confidential tier`. If the Space only accepts builds you approved, a new release shows "Accept this build" in that sheet. If you see "This secure Space is asleep", the secure enclave is restarting; send your message again in a minute or two. ## Temporary Spaces A temporary Space is deleted when it goes unused and cannot be recovered. Nothing is saved on your device. It shows a "TEMPORARY" badge. 1. Start a New Space and tap "Advanced". 2. Turn on "Temporary". 3. Tap "Create". Tap the "TEMPORARY" badge to read what it means. Not available when: "Private assistants" is on — turning one on turns the other off. A temporary Space also cannot get a private room. When one has lapsed you see "That temporary Space has lapsed — it was wiped." ## Direct chats A direct chat is a verified Space with exactly one other person and no name. Each side sees it under the other person's name. You can have several direct chats with the same person. 1. Start a New Space, tap "Add people" and pick one person. 2. Turn on "Only these people can post". 3. Leave the name empty (the field shows the person's name), then tap "Create". From a Space's member list: `⋯ → People → Who's been here` (or "Members"), then "Message" next to a person — pick one of your chats with them, or "New chat with …". If you type a name, it becomes an ordinary verified Space for two instead. Not available when: renaming — nobody renames a direct chat. You also cannot invite more people into it. ## Rename a Space A Space alone with you is named automatically from the conversation until you rename it. A group is named by hand. A rename shows as a line in the chat and notifies the members. 1. Tap the Space's title at the top, then "Rename". 2. Or open `⋯ → This Space → Rename`. 3. Type the new name and tap "Rename". You can also long-press a Space in the menu list and tap "Rename". Not available when: the Space has owners or admins and you are not one of them ("Only this Space’s admins can rename it."), or it is a direct chat. ## Members, owners and admins In a verified Space, owners and admins manage the list. An owner is also an admin. Admins can add people, remove members and make members admins; only owners can change owners or remove an admin. 1. Open `⋯ → People → Members` (titled "Who's been here" in a regular Space). 2. Owners and admins see "Change members". Tap it. 3. Use "Make admin" / "Not admin", "Make owner" / "Not owner", "Remove", or type an address in "Add by email" and tap "Add". 4. Tap "Save changes", then "Move" to confirm. Saving moves the Space to a new room with a new key. Removed people lose access; everyone else follows automatically and the history comes along. In a regular (link) Space, the person who made it may see `⋯ → People → Manage members`, which also moves everyone to a fresh Space and gives you a new link per member to share. Not available when: you are not an owner or admin ("Only this Space’s owners and admins can change its members."). ## Talking to the assistant Type in the message box and tap send. The assistant answers in the chat. Choose how the assistant replies with the mode chip in the composer. The mode is shared by everyone in the Space. - "Auto": replies when it is relevant (always when you are alone; in a group, when it is addressed or has something useful to add). - "Always": replies to every message. - "On demand": replies only when you @mention it. To address the assistant: 1. Type "@" and pick its name from the list, or tap "@AI" to send your message addressed to it. Choose the model with the model chip. Some models show an "Effort" row — how hard the model thinks before it answers. Change the assistant's name and instructions: `⋯ → Assistant → Assistant instructions`, then "Save". Everyone sees that they changed. Long-press a message for "Reply", "Play aloud" and "Copy message". In a confidential Space an assistant reply also has "Turn certificate". Not available when: "@AI" is hidden in "Always" mode, since every message already gets a reply. ## Private assistant panel With "Private assistants" on, each person has their own assistant that only they can see. It reads the shared Space and helps you privately. 1. In the shared Space, tap "🔒 Assistant" to open your private panel. 2. Talk to it there; the shared room does not see this. 3. To have it write something for the shared room, type your idea and tap "✍️ Draft". 4. Drafts wait under "Awaiting your approval" in the shared room until you approve them. To add a private room to a Space that has none: `⋯ → Private room → Add a private room`. Not available when: the Space is temporary. The private room itself cannot be shared or invited to. ## Meetings and calls 1. `⋯ → People → Meeting link`: paste a Zoom, Meet or Teams invite (the whole text is fine — the link is picked out). Everyone in the Space then sees "Join meeting". 2. `⋯ → People → Start a call` rings everyone in the Space. ## Siri Say something to Siri and it lands in a Space, posted as you. 1. Sign in with your email. 2. In the Space, open `⋯ → Assistant → Siri` (or Settings → Assistant → "Siri"), choose the alias you will say, and tap "Use Siri here". 3. Make the Shortcut once, as the sheet shows: Shortcuts app → + → name it Witbitz → "Dictate Text" → "Get Contents of URL" with the address and key shown. ## Outside agents Other AI agents can reach your assistant in a Space's private room. 1. Open `⋯ → Assistant → Outside agents`. 2. Choose what outside agents see your assistant called and turn on "Let outside agents reach my assistant". 3. What they send arrives in your private room; your assistant drafts the answer and you approve it before it goes back. ## Linking private rooms - `⋯ → Private room → Link a private room`, then pick one of your Spaces in the list: it becomes this Space's private room. "Unlink private room" undoes it. - Inside a private room, "Link another private room" lets its assistant ask another one. - `⋯ → Private room → Links` shows how this Space is linked to others. ## Attachments, photos, voice and files 1. Tap the attach button to choose photos, take a picture, or pick a file. 2. Attached items show above the message box; tap one to preview, or remove it. 3. Send the message. The assistant and everyone in the Space see them. One message carries up to 4 photos and 2 files. Each file can be up to 3.5 MB. A long paste becomes an attached text file; you can turn it back with "Paste as text". Press-to-talk: 1. Tap the microphone. 2. Speak; the words appear in the box as you talk. 3. Tap stop to keep the words and edit them, tap send to send what you said, or tap ✕ to cancel. The first use may download a voice model. Allow microphone access when asked. Files and pictures the assistant makes open in a viewer, where you can save, copy or "Pin to views". Pinned items are in "Shared views" at the top of the room. ## Notifications and message preview 1. Open Settings → Preferences → Notifications and tap to turn on. 2. Once on, choose "Show message preview": On shows the sender and first line; Off says only that something arrived. 3. For one Space, use `⋯ → This Space → Notify me of new messages`. On an iPhone, install the app first (Settings → Preferences → "Install app"). Not available when: notifications are blocked in your device settings ("Notifications · Blocked in device settings"), or the app is not installed on a device that needs it. ## The lock and storage protection The lock asks for Face ID / Touch ID to open Spaces on this device. 1. Open Settings → Privacy & security → "Lock screen". 2. Choose "Also lock after being away" (only when the app opens, or after 1, 5 or 30 minutes in the background). 3. Optional: tick "Also protect this device’s storage" — your keys and messages on this device stay encrypted until you unlock. 4. Tap "Turn on Face ID lock". To turn it off, open the same sheet and tap "Turn off (Face ID)". When locked, tap "Unlock". Not available when: the device has no built-in authenticator (the row is hidden). ## Devices, sign-in and recovery Sign in with your email to keep your Spaces, sync devices and join verified Spaces. Back up so you can restore everything on a new device. Sign in: Settings → Profile → "Sign in". Turn on backup: 1. Open Settings → Privacy & security → "Back up & recovery". 2. Tap "Turn on with a passkey" or "Turn on with a recovery code". 3. With a code: copy it, keep it in a password manager, and tap "I’ve saved it — continue". Add a device: 1. On the new device, choose "Bring my Spaces from another device"; it shows a code. 2. On a device that has your Spaces: "Back up & recovery" → "Add a device — scan its code", and scan it. Restore: "Restore your Spaces" on the welcome screen, or "Restore from a backup", then "Use a passkey" or enter your recovery code and tap "Restore my Spaces". See and sign out devices: "Back up & recovery" → "Your devices". Keep an offline copy: "Back up & recovery" → "Download an offline copy". Sign out: Settings → Profile → "Sign out". Delete everything: Settings → Profile → "Delete my account". Choose a public @username: Settings → Profile → "Choose a username". ## Connections A connection is an API key you attach so an assistant can call that service for you. The key is kept in a sealed enclave and never reaches the Space, the server or the model. 1. Sign in with your email. 2. In the Space, open `⋯ → Assistant → Connections`. 3. Under "From your account", tap "Use here" on a key you already attached, or fill in name, host and the key and tap "Attach". 4. To stop a Space using one, tap "Stop using here". All your keys are in Settings → Assistant → "Connections", where "Detach" deletes one for every Space. Not available when: you are not signed in ("Sign in with your email to add a connection."). ## Code and computers Code lets a coding agent work on your own computer, driven from your phone. It is available by invitation. 1. Open the menu and tap "Code". 2. With no computer paired, Code shows "Use Code on your computer": pick Windows, Mac or Linux and follow the steps on that computer (or tap "Send to my computer" to send yourself the link; the same steps are at witbitz.chat/code). 3. Follow the steps the computer shows to pair it with your account. Once paired it appears in Code's list of computers. 4. The same steps are always on your phone: in Code, open its menu (☰) → Settings → "Add a computer" — use it for another computer, or to see the steps again. The steps on each computer (as "Add a computer" shows them): - **Windows:** open PowerShell (Start menu → type PowerShell → Enter; a normal window, not "Run as administrator"), paste `irm https://app.witbitz.chat/code.ps1 | iex` and press Enter. A page opens in the browser: tap "Pair this computer", then scan its code with your phone in Spaces → Settings → Back up & recovery → "Add a device — scan its code". It runs in the background and can start again when you log in (tick that on the page); Start menu → Witbitz Code opens the page again. - **Mac:** install Node.js (the LTS version from nodejs.org), then open Terminal and run `curl -fsSL https://app.witbitz.chat/code.sh | bash`. Scan the code it shows the same way, and say yes when it offers to keep running. - **Linux, or Windows with WSL:** in a terminal (your WSL terminal on Windows) run `pipx install witbitz-code && witbitz-code setup` (no pipx? `sudo apt install pipx` on Ubuntu). On WSL a page opens in your Windows browser; on Linux the code appears in the terminal. Scan it the same way. The composer's permission chip in Code chooses how much the coding agent may do without asking. ## Usage 1. Your own usage across Spaces: Settings → Profile → "Your usage". 2. Usage in one Space: `⋯ → Assistant → Usage`; "Export CSV" saves it. 3. An admin of a verified Space can pay for members' use with `⋯ → Assistant → Fund this room`. ## Settings overview Open the menu and tap "Settings". Rows are in four groups. - Profile: "Your name", "Your usage", "Choose a username", "Sign in" / "Sign out", "Delete my account". - Assistant: "Your assistant", "Connections", "Siri", "Room map" (some appear only when available). - Preferences: "Map language", "Remove empty Spaces", "Notifications", "Show message preview", "Install app". - Privacy & security: "Lock screen", "Hide my IP", "Back up & recovery". - Below the groups: the build line (tap to copy) and "Reset this device". In a Space, ⋯ has four groups too: People, Assistant, Private room and This Space (Rename, notifications, "Export (JSON)" to save its messages, "Delete Space"). "Install app" appears there when the app can be installed. In the menu list, long-press a Space for "Pin", "Rename", "Archive", "Export (JSON)" and "Delete". ## Troubleshooting - "Not sent · Retry" under your message: it did not reach the Space. Check your connection and tap "Retry". - "You’re offline — reconnect to send a message." / "Offline — showing your last synced messages.": reconnect; your messages come back. - "Your Google account isn’t on this Space’s allow-list, so it can’t post here.": ask an owner or admin to add your email. - "Couldn’t send the code — try again.", "That code didn’t match", "That code expired", "Too many tries — request a new code.": request a new sign-in code and try again. - "This secure Space is asleep" / "Couldn’t wake this secure Space — please try again in a moment.": the secure enclave is restarting; send again in a minute or two. - "This Space’s confidential enclave has a new key and this page could not reconnect": reopen the Space and try again. - "The assistant is still busy — please resend in a moment.": wait for its current reply, then send again. - "“…” wasn’t mentioned, so it won’t reply — this Space is On demand.": write @ and the assistant's name, or change the mode chip. - "Couldn’t unlock this Space’s history": the link may be for another Space or incomplete; ask the person who shared it to send it again. - "… is too large (max 4MB)." or "A message carries up to 4 photos and 2 files": send fewer or smaller files. - "Only this Space’s admins can rename it.": only owners and admins rename this Space. - "That temporary Space has lapsed — it was wiped.": temporary Spaces cannot be recovered. - "Your session expired — sign in again to keep viewing this Space.": sign in again. - "Spaces was updated — tap to refresh": tap the banner to load the new version. - "This device was signed out remotely": sign in again or restore your Spaces. - "Notifications · Blocked in device settings": allow notifications for the app in your phone's settings.
